Course Description

Cascade is the University of Alberta’s web content management system used to create and maintain website pages and digital content. In this introductory course, you will learn the fundamentals of working in Cascade CMS, including navigating the interface, accessing sites and pages, and managing website content.

Topics include logging in to Cascade, using the dashboard and widgets, navigating site directories, and working with common content types. You will also learn how to create and edit pages using the Rich Text Editor, format text, insert links, lists, images, and media, and publish content. Basic web and content design principles will also be introduced throughout the course.

Please note that this course is intended exclusively for University of Alberta employees and is not available to individuals outside of the University.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • 🗸 Navigate the Cascade interface, including dashboards, widgets, site menus, and directories.
  • 🗸 Create and manage common content items such as pages, folders, news items, events, links, files, and media.
  • 🗸 Edit page content using content components and text editor tools while applying basic page structure concepts.
  • 🗸 Upload, insert, submit, and publish content and documents within Cascade CMS.

  • 🗸Multiple course offerings are available throughout the year. Early registration is recommended, as classes may fill up or be cancelled due to low enrollment.

  • 🗸To succeed in this course, you need basic computer skills and knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Software.
  • 🗸Assessment includes post-course work to be completed.
