Program Description 

This cita­tion is designed to pro­vide geo­sci­en­tists, as well as min­ing and petro­le­um engi­neers, with knowledge and skills that will allow them to bet­ter quan­ti­fy resources and reserves.

This pro­gram fills an important niche between the con­ven­tion­al one-week inten­sive course and a two-year master’s degree pro­gram. It is ide­al­ly suit­ed to those from indus­try who seek a more in-depth under­stand­ing of mod­ern geo­sta­tis­ti­cal tools.

Cost  

  • The approximate cost of this Certificate is $8,000 CAD
  • Pay as you go - students pay on a course-by-course basis as they register. 
  • An application fee of $100 is required for admis­sion into the program
  • Cours­es are GST-exempt
  • Consider applying for the Cana­da-Alber­ta Job Grant
 

Program Details

  • This program is comprised of one course, with a total of 170 instructional hours
  • This program is designed for part-time study and can generally be completed within four months
  • It is recommended that students have a bachelor’s degree in engi­neer­ing, geo­science, or relat­ed field
  • Course is pass/fail for a grade of CR/NC. Students need to pass assessments.
  • Students are expected to spend 60 hours on lecture material, 40 hours on informal learning and interaction, and up to 90 hours on the exercises. The time required for the exercises could exceed this amount if customized to a project. Sixteen comprehensive assignments will be distributed.

How to Apply for your Credential

  • Students can verify their program requirements and progress by logging into the University of Alberta’s student portal, Bear Tracks, to view your Academic Advisement
  • A cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 is required to graduate
  • To qualify for program completion, you must submit a request to obtain your credential

International Students

  • International Students are welcome to enroll in our courses, with the only requirement being a stable internet connection. 
  • Contact the Program Office for course fees for international students completing courses in this program.
  • Students are responsible for ensuring that they are proficient in English so that they can fully participate in classes
  • Please note that non-credit programming does not qualify for a study permit, therefore this program cannot be used for immigration to Canada. Foreign nationals authorized to work in Canada who are prohibited from engaging in studies as a condition of their work permit are allowed to engage in distance learning courses. Completion of EXAGC 4007A and EXAGC 4007B is equivalent to EXAGC 4007 'Applied Geostatistics'. Students will register themselves in EXAGC 4007A and staff will then complete the registration for EXAGC 4007B.
