Program Description
Learn the skills you need to launch a career in augmented reality and virtual reality design and prototyping. Through a project-based curriculum, you will complete the program with a portfolio of five projects demonstrating the foundational skills needed to design immersive technologies in XR.
The Interaction Design and Prototyping for XR Microcredential is offered in partnership with Circuit Stream, an industry leader in Extended Reality (XR) and Game Development education. Learn how to apply design best practices and patterns of design to immersive environments and XR applications.
You’ll gain a solid understanding of usability considerations when designing for immersive experiences, and you’ll be able to use industry-standard tools, processes and techniques for designing interfaces and layouts. By the end of the program, you should be able to effectively apply a range of XR development theories, methods, and best practices needed to create intuitive and immersive user interfaces.

Upon successful completion of this course and a minimum grade of 70% on the final quiz, you will earn a co-branded XR Designer digital badge from the University of Alberta and Circuit Stream.

This live online program runs over ten weeks. Your time commitment will include:
- 3 hours online class sessions per week
- 4-6 hours self-study
- Optional study sessions with student ambassadors
- Optional weekly office hours

Transferability
This program is non-credit and does not count towards a University of Alberta diploma or certificate program. It will not impact your GPA and you will not see it on your transcript. Upon successful completion, you will receive a co-branded digital badge from the University of Alberta and Circuit Stream.
International Students
- International Students are welcome to enroll in our courses, with the only requirement being a stable internet connection. There are no differential course fees for international students completing courses in this program
- Students are responsible for ensuring that they are proficient in English so that they can fully participate in classes
- Please note that non-credit programming does not qualify for a study permit, therefore this program cannot be used for immigration to Canada. Foreign nationals authorized to work in Canada who are prohibited from engaging in studies as a condition of their work permit are allowed to engage in distance learning courses.
