Program Description

Computer games contribute $5.5 billion to the Canadian economy. Edmonton hosts almost one hundred separate game studios, with approximately the same number throughout the rest of the province. The need for new workers to fill this growing industry is constant. This certificate, which introduces some of the most important game design theories and practices, was developed in collaboration with industry experts based in Edmonton, including graduates of UAlberta’s games program who currently work in the industry. It builds on the University of Alberta’s expertise in game studies and game design, which includes decades-long collaboration with the gaming industry.
