PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Certified in Management (C.I.M.) is a pro­fes­sion­al des­ig­na­tion very well regard­ed in the busi­ness com­mu­ni­ty, with des­ig­na­tion hold­ers in every province across Canada. This des­ig­na­tion is award­ed by Canada’s senior man­age­ment asso­ci­a­tion, the Cana­di­an Insti­tute of Man­age­ment (CIM), an orga­ni­za­tion that for 75 years has been advanc­ing careers and con­tribut­ing to the field of man­age­ment knowl­edge, enhanc­ing man­age­r­i­al skills, and pro­mot­ing excel­lence with­in the profession.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

To ful­fill the aca­d­e­m­ic com­po­nent need­ed to become Cer­ti­fied in Man­age­ment, can­di­dates are required to com­plete the Char­tered Man­age­ment Pro­gram (CMP), a series of eight cours­es that pro­vide the knowl­edge foun­da­tion to earn the des­ig­na­tion. Online Learn­ing & Con­tin­u­ing Edu­ca­tion offers all cours­es of the CMP on a part-time basis, allow­ing you to com­plete the pro­gram while devel­op­ing your man­age­ment skills in the workplace.

How to obtain the C.I.M. Designation  

Cost

  • CAD 7,600 (Price may vary and are dependent on electives chosen.)
  • Pay as you go: You can pay course-by-course as you register. You don’t need to pay the entire program fee at once.
  • Courses are GST-exempt

Program Details

  • It’s designed for part-time study and can generally be completed within 1-2 years.
  • You have the flexibility to schedule courses around your availability. Most students complete 1-3 courses per semester.
  • Courses don’t have to be completed in any specific order, so you can choose the courses that best fit your schedule.
  • Grading is through assessments, which could include quizzes, exams, discussion forums, papers, and presentations.
  • This program offers a flexible online experience, with courses offered asynchronously. More info about online delivery formats can be found here.

How to Apply

  • Stu­dents seek­ing strict­ly a C.I.M. des­ig­na­tion are not required to apply for admis­sion to the Uni­ver­si­ty of Alber­ta — only to reg­is­ter for each course on an indi­vid­ual basis. 
  • If you’re inter­est­ed in earn­ing a UAl­ber­ta cre­den­tial while you work toward your C.I.M. des­ig­na­tion, you may enrol in the Man­age­ment Devel­op­ment Cer­tifi­cate pro­gram as you start your stud­ies or, if you pre­fer, after you have tak­en one or more courses.

Receiving Your Certificate

Transferability

  • To learn about transferability from other institutions, see our Transfer Credit information 
  • The courses in this program are also transferable to the Management Development program.  

International Students

  • International Students are welcome to enroll and pay the same course fees as local students.
  • Proficiency in English and a stable internet connection are needed to fully participate in classes.
  • Please note that non-credit programming does not qualify for a study permit. Therefore, foreign nationals cannot use this program for immigration to Canada. Foreign nationals authorized to work in Canada but are prohibited from engaging in studies as a condition of their work permit are allowed to engage in distance learning courses.
