Program Description
The Certified in Management (C.I.M.) is a professional designation very well regarded in the business community, with designation holders in every province across Canada. This designation is awarded by Canada’s senior management association, the Canadian Institute of Management (CIM), an organization that for 75 years has been advancing careers and contributing to the field of management knowledge, enhancing managerial skills, and promoting excellence within the profession.

What You'll Earn
- 🗸 With an undergraduate degree, you can count your CMP course completions towards earning a Chartered Manager (C. Mgr.) designation.
- 🗸 To fulfill the academic component needed to become Certified in Management, candidates are required to complete the Chartered Management Program (CMP), a series of eight courses that provide the knowledge foundation to earn the designation. Online Learning & Continuing Education offers all courses of the CMP on a part-time basis, allowing you to complete the program while developing your management skills in the workplace.
- Approximate cost of this program is $6,480 not including textbooks.
- This program is comprised of four core courses, and four elective courses worth 39 hours. To meet the elective requirements for this designation, you must either complete all four electives (EXMGT 5515, EXMGT 5587, EXMGT 5596, and EXMT 5586) or complete any three of these electives along with the Project Management Certificate courses (EXMGT 5427, EXMGT 5443, and EXMGT 5444). - It’s designed for part-time study and can generally be completed within one to three years.
- You have the flexibility to schedule courses around your availability. Most students complete 1–2 courses per semester. Courses are 14–39 hours, for a total of 255 instructional hours.
- Grading is through assessments, which might include quizzes, exams, discussion forums, papers, and presentations.
- It’s a flexible online experience, with courses offered synchronously and/or asynchronously. More info about online delivery formats can be found here.
- Course materials are shared in CE Canvas. Some courses may require additional resources, such as textbooks.
This program currently does not include funding or scholarship opportunities.
- After you successfully complete your program requirements, you will need to contact CIM and submit your transcript to CIM directly. If you have any questions about your credentials, please contact the program office.
- The courses in this program are also transferable to Management Development.

- International Students are welcome to enroll and pay the same course fees as local students.
- Proficiency in English and a stable internet connection are needed to participate and succeed in our courses.
- Please note that non-credit programming does not qualify for a study permit, therefore, this program cannot be used for immigration to Canada. For more information, please contact University of Alberta International Student Services.
