Program Description

This program will equip you with the skills to understand and navigate the intervention process in specialized education, including identifying neurodevelopmental disorders, creating individualized intervention plans, and collaborating with families and communities. This program is ideal for individuals balancing personal and professional commitments, especially those working with autistic children in daycares or elementary schools without prior training.

What You'll Earn
  • 🗸You will get new skills to be able to intervene humanely and effectively with children who need special attention due to an autism spectrum condition. Your new skills will also give you the opportunity to demonstrate your capacities to the parents and reassure them about the good care their children will receive

 

Cost +
  • Fees for each course: $750.00 CAD
  • Pay as you go: You can pay course-by-course as you register. You don’t need to pay the entire program fee at once
  • Cost of the full program: $1500.00 CAD
  • Courses are GST-exempt

Program Details +
  • This program consists of two courses. Each course is 39 hours in length, for a total of 78 instructional hours
  • The program is designed for part-time study and must be completed within six months (180 days), 90 days per course. There is no minimum time requirement to complete the program
  • The first course (Neurodevelopmental disorders in children with autism spectrum disorders) is a prerequisite to the second (Special education intervention process for children with autism spectrum disorder)
  • Each course ends with a Certification Exam, which must be successfully completed to be allowed to start the next course or obtain the Autistic Assistance Child Care Certificate
  • The courses are Self-Paced Asynchronous, online. It is a flexible online learning experience where you work through the course materials and activities at your own pace. More info about online delivery formats can be found here. There are no real-time virtual classroom sessions to attend. There are no fixed terms to start your program
  • Grading is through a final exam. The courses also contain formative assessments to help you prepare for the final exam
  • Course materials are shared through the University’s Learning Management Systems. One course requires you to get a textbook
  • Your instructors are more than educators and adult learning specialists. They are specialists in Specialized Education, as much in the work field as in the academic milieu

Receiving Your Certificate +
  • After you successfully complete your program requirements, you’ll receive an email letting you know when your certificate is ready. If you have any questions about your credentials, please contact the program office. Once you receive your certificate, you’ll also be eligible to become a UAlberta Associate Alumni.
Transferability +
  • The graduates from this program can receive recognition from the Early Childhood Education - Specialized Education and Inclusion program. The participant would obtain 3* for course ESI 120 (Intervention Processes in Specialized Education)

International Students +
  • International Students are welcome to enroll and pay the same course fees as local students.
  • Proficiency in English and a stable internet connection are needed to participate and succeed in our courses.
