Program Description

Dig­i­tal tech­nol­o­gy is deeply chang­ing the way busi­ness­es and not-for-prof­its oper­ate and mar­ket them­selves. The Dig­i­tal Mar­ket­ing Cer­tifi­cate is a part-time, ful­ly online pro­gram that pro­vides key skills to learn­ers look­ing to bet­ter under­stand the field of dig­i­tal mar­ket­ing, devel­op mean­ing­ful con­tent, con­duct ana­lyt­ics to eval­u­ate cam­paigns, and learn how to make the most of organ­ic and paid tac­tics to best reach their tar­get audience.

A spe­cial cap­stone project allows par­tic­i­pants to inte­grate the the­o­ry, meth­ods, con­cepts, and tools they learned in the pre­vi­ous cours­es and apply them to a real-world dig­i­tal mar­ket­ing project.

Cost +
  • Approximate cost of the full program:$3,870 CAD effective Fall 2025
  • Submit your program declaration at no extra cost
  • Flexible payment – pay course-by-course as you go
  • Courses are GST-exempt.
  • Some courses may require additional resources, such as textbooks
Program Details +
  • This program is comprised of three core courses and three electives. Each course is 21 hours, for a total of 126 instructional hours
  • It’s designed for part-time study and can generally be completed within one to two years.
  • You have the flexibility to schedule courses around your availability. Most students complete 1-3 courses per semester
  • Grading is through assessments, which might include quizzes, exams, discussion forums, papers, and presentations
  • It’s a flexible online experience, with courses offered asynchronously and/or synchronously. More info about online delivery formats can be found here
  • Course materials are shared in CE Canvas. Some courses may require additional resources, such as textbooks

Courses in this program may be eligible for the Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (CAPG), with final approval determined by CAPG administrators. Employers and applicants can review the CAPG guidelines and full details on the University of Alberta’s Continuing Education website.

Receiving Your Certificate +
  • After you successfully complete your program requirements, you’ll receive an email letting you know when your certificate is ready. If you have any questions about your credentials, please contact the program office. Once you receive your certificate, you’ll also be eligible to become a UAlberta Associate Alumni.
Transferability +
  • Some courses in this pro­gram are also trans­fer­able to the Digital Marketing Certificate program.
  • To learn about transferability from other institutions, see our Transfer Credit information
  • Students with a completed Social Media Certificate may be granted an exemption for one elective course in the Master of Arts in Communications and Technology (MACT) program. For more information please contact the MACT program office
