Program Description
Learn about core issues related to data collection, data protection, and security. Be equipped with knowledge of privacy and data collection, understand various definitions of privacy and discuss topics such as protection of privacy data, security mechanisms used to protect privacy of data (encryption, data hiding, data access, antivirus software), and the regulatory framework of collecting, using, and managing personal data and privacy.

Consisting of three online, 21-hour courses, this program will be of special interest to government employees (federal, provincial, and municipal), government agencies, private sector employees, and anyone who wants to learn about the core issues related to privacy and data security.
This microcredential may also help you to start exploring careers across all sectors as a privacy analyst, privacy data officer, and privacy and compliance officer.

- The approximate cost of this microcredential is $1,785 CAD
- Course Fees typically $595 CAD
- Pay as you go - students pay on a course-by-course basis as they register. You do not need to pay all of the course fees at once
- Course fees are GST-exempt

Program Details
- This microcredential is comprised of three courses. Each course is 21 hours in length, for a total of 63 instructional hours
- This program is designed for part-time study and can generally be completed in less than a year.
- Courses are graded with assessments. This might include quizzes, exams, discussion forums, papers, and presentations

How to Apply
There are no admission requirements or processes that students need to complete when pursuing a Continuing Education Professional Microcredential
How to Apply for Your Record of Achievement
- Once students have completed the required courses, they can Request their Record of Achievement for microcredential completion
- Record of Achievements are sent electronically to the student's UAlberta email address.
Transferability
- Two of these courses may be applied towards the Certificate in Information Access and Protection of Privacy for those interested in pursuing further professional development.

International Students
- International Students are welcome to enroll in our courses, with the only requirement being a stable internet connection. There are no differential course fees for international students completing courses in this program
- Students are responsible for ensuring that they are proficient in English so that they can fully participate in classes
- Please note that non-credit programming does not qualify for a study permit, therefore this program cannot be used for immigration to Canada. Foreign nationals authorized to work in Canada who are prohibited from engaging in studies as a condition of their work permit are allowed to engage in distance learning courses.
