Program Description

Learn about core issues relat­ed to data col­lec­tion, data pro­tec­tion, and secu­ri­ty. Be equipped with knowl­edge of pri­va­cy and data col­lec­tion, under­stand var­i­ous def­i­n­i­tions of pri­va­cy and dis­cuss top­ics such as pro­tec­tion of pri­va­cy data, secu­ri­ty mech­a­nisms used to pro­tect pri­va­cy of data (encryp­tion, data hid­ing, data access, antivirus soft­ware), and the reg­u­la­to­ry frame­work of col­lect­ing, using, and man­ag­ing per­son­al data and privacy.

Con­sist­ing of three online, 21-hour cours­es, this pro­gram will be of spe­cial inter­est to gov­ern­ment employ­ees (fed­er­al, provin­cial, and munic­i­pal), gov­ern­ment agen­cies, pri­vate sec­tor employ­ees, and any­one who wants to learn about the core issues relat­ed to pri­va­cy and data secu­ri­ty. 

This micro­cre­den­tial may also help you to start explor­ing careers across all sec­tors as a pri­va­cy ana­lyst, pri­va­cy data offi­cer, and pri­va­cy and com­pli­ance officer.

  • The approximate cost of this microcredential is $1,785 CAD
  • Course Fees typically $595 CAD
  • Pay as you go - students pay on a course-by-course basis as they register. You do not need to pay all of the course fees at once
  • Cours­e fees are GST-exempt
  • Consider applying for the Cana­da-Alber­ta Job Grant

Program Details

  • This microcredential is comprised of three courses. Each course is 21 hours in length, for a total of 63 instructional hours
  • This program is designed for part-time study and can generally be completed in less than a year.
  • Courses are graded with assessments. This might include quizzes, exams, discussion forums, papers, and presentations

  • International Students are welcome to enroll in our courses, with the only requirement being a stable internet connection. There are no differential course fees for international students completing courses in this program
  • Students are responsible for ensuring that they are proficient in English so that they can fully participate in classes
  • Please note that non-credit programming does not qualify for a study permit, therefore this program cannot be used for immigration to Canada. Foreign nationals authorized to work in Canada who are prohibited from engaging in studies as a condition of their work permit are allowed to engage in distance learning courses.
