Course Description
Provides an introduction to the provincial and federal laws that affect municipalities. Topics addressed include the election and operation of council; drafting, enacting and enforcing bylaws; reasons for bylaw validity, municipal contracts and tendering, and municipal liability.Who Should Take This Course?
Aimed at individuals interested in moving into higher level responsibilities in the local government field; our student body includes municipal government employees in planning, corporate services, economic development, operations, finance, and more.Learner Outcomes
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Become familiar with municipal law principles and Canadian municipal legislation.
- Analyze and apply municipal legislation and concepts to specific factual situations in the municipal context.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of municipal legislation in achieving municipal purposes.
- Synthesize municipal legal theory with practical application of municipal legislation and principles.
