Course Description

Develop an understanding of wide-ranging social issues, with a focus on lessons learned from renewable project development in other parts of Canada, ways to enhance local Indigenous and non-Indigenous stakeholder engagement in project development, opportunities for community and local ownership of renewable projects.

Who Should Take This Course?

Aimed at industry executives, environmental professionals, project managers, power producers and regulators, those working in government agencies, utility companies, and energy agencies, as well as developers and investors interested in expanding their career or business with renewable energy.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to: Utilize case studies from across Canada to identify and avoid pitfalls of renewable energy projects. Understand the features of community energy projects and what makes them successful. Identify key elements of effective public engagement in renewable energy projects. Apply aspects of renewable energy projects that will increase social support and adoption of renewable technologies. Explore the idea of Indigenous energy; understand the historical and legal basis for a uniquely Indigenous approach to energy development.
