Course Description

This course focuses on the development of the knowledge, skills and judgment required to deliver safe and effective physical therapy (PT) care in the Canadian setting, clinical reasoning and professional communication. Prerequisite: University of Alberta Physical Therapy Practice in the Canadian Health System course or another Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators approved course.

Learner Outcomes

The goal of the course is to develop clinical reasoning and decision making skills utilizing models to guide the assessment, treatment and evaluation processes involved in physiotherapy practice in Canada. The course will involve in depth discussion and practice of learning methods, communication principles and strategies necessary for physical therapy practice. Verbal and written communication skills (documentation) to effectively communicate with clients and other members of the healthcare team will be explored through experiential learning.
