Course Description

Leadership is all about building relationships and connecting with people. Reflect on current leadership practices and explore fundamental leadership theories as you discuss different leadership styles and strengths. Identify key planning strategies to lead others toward a shared vision. Identify strategies on how to develop a cohesive, efficient, and effective team. Understand the beliefs and barriers that may hinder the efforts of emerging leaders.

Aimed at emerging leaders, supervisors, and mid-level managers who seek to move up within their organization by improving their leadership skills.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a broader understanding of leadership including key theories, definitions, leadership styles and differentiate leadership and management.
  2. Compare and contrast values, behaviours and practices of effective and ineffective leaders.
  3. Identify exemplary behaviors/practices of effective leaders and recognize the importance of relationships in leadership work.
  4. Analyze their leadership style and practice, develop a philosophy of leadership, and communicate their shared values and vision.
  5. Identify key strategies to successfully enlist and lead others towards a shared vision and overcome conflict.
  6. Demonstrate a broad understanding of leadership.
  7. Differentiate between leadership and management.
  8. Identify effective leadership models for everyday work.
  9. Compare values, behaviours, and practices of effective and ineffective leaders.
  10. Know the key supervisory and management fundamentals.
  11. Identify key planning strategies to lead others toward a shared vision.
  12. Have an insight into getting off to a successful start when placed in a new supervisory position.
  13. Have an improved ability to communicate to subordinates.
  14. Understand the conflict resolution model.
  15. Identify strategies on how to develop a cohesive, efficient, and effective team.

Be introduced to the fundamentals of leadership as you reflect on your own leadership philosophy, examining who you are as a leader, articulating your values and behaviours, and generating a vision for your leadership practice.
