EXOS 4570 - Introduction to Business Essentials
Course Description
Understand the essentials of business theory and practices as you explore concepts and tools useful in various organizational settings. Gain an appreciation for decision-making complexity within organizations and organizational networks and apply these skills in business case development. Build critical thinking skills in financial literacy, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and cost-benefit analyses of health and safety initiatives.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- 🗸 Summarize competing pressures of various organizational stakeholders.
- 🗸 Explain the importance of financial literacy for health and safety practitioners.
- 🗸 Calculate three (3) financial statement ratios.
- 🗸 Complete a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) with a given case study.
- 🗸 Develop a business case for implementing a health and safety initiative.
- 🗸 Describe how external risks (e.g. changing legislation, market pressure) affects organizational decisions.
