Course Description

Get a step-by-step overview of the investigation of "unplanned events" and learn the critical components of an incident investigation, including the initial response, legal reporting requirements, securing the scene, evidence-gathering, interviewing techniques, documentation collection, the role of various stakeholders, and reporting formats. Understand the primary reasons for performing an incident investigation and identify recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.

All components of this online, self-paced asynchronous must be completed within the specified dates of the course. In this learning model, you are free to move through the content at your own pace with suggested time line. Your instructor will answer questions and support you as needed, via email and eClass, the University of Alberta’s eLearning management tool. The course will sequentially walk you through its content, in which you will be exposed to the high level concepts; be given a case study with some knowledge-check questions and instant feedback; be asked to prepare a personalized post to apply the content to your own place of work; and then you may wait for feedback from your instructor or proceed directly to the quiz for that section. Graded on a pass or fail basis: a passing grade of 70% or higher is required to receive Completed Requirements (CR) on your transcript. Required readings are provided in eClass.
