Course Description

Learn how to set up a fully functioning eCommerce store from start to finish. This course will walk you through the most up-to-date methods for creating an online store that is optimized for conversion and built to sell. In addition to setting up your homepage, collection pages, product pages, and sub-pages, we will also cover product photography/video, offer strategy, and copywriting.

Aimed at those who want to better reach and communicate with their target audiences while understanding and building social media skills, including small business owners and those working in government, small to large enterprises, not-for-profits, and board-run organizations.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to: Understand the basics of online sales and mobile marketing, including web marketing, email marketing, mobile marketing, and affiliate marketing. Investigate the impact of mobile platforms and cloud computing. Examine the changing landscape of paid online marketing. Develop a sales-focused marketing campaign by combining several marketing methods.

Notes

Fully online asynchronous course, accessible through eClass, the University of Alberta’s eLearning management tool. Required learning materials: you will be asked to purchase an ecommerce product (under $30 CAD + GST), which will be used to build an eCommerce campaign; you’re also required to buy a one-month subscription to a basic Shopify plan ($29 USD). While there are no prerequisites for this course, a general working knowledge of Social Media platforms is recommended for student success. You will be expected to have existing social media accounts or to create them prior to the course start date. This course has the equivalent of three hours of online instruction per week (including voice over PowerPoints, readings, and resource links), plus weekly assignments. Students are encouraged to build relationships and network with their classmates through forums and discussions.
