EXCST 4240 - Procurement Analysis
Course Description
Procurement analysis is an integral skill for construction professionals to optimize how they obtain services, materials and products while constrained by limited resources. This course will focus on developing source matrices, sourcing techniques, and alternative resource strategies. Approaches used by construction professionals to manage budget and material requirements within project management systems will also be covered.
This course may be eligible for the Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (CAPG), with final approval determined by CAPG administrators. Employers and applicants can review the CAPG guidelines and full details on the University of Alberta’s Continuing Education website.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- 🗸 Describe the concepts of procurement analysis associated to the transfer of risk for acceptance of the respective reward.
- 🗸 Associate an appropriate risk model to any project in order to Minimize the negative cost and timing effects and Maximize the positive cost or timing effects
- 🗸 Understand the baseline scope of work or change to the scope of a project during its construction.
- 🗸 Develop an effective procurement strategy for construction services and products.
- 🗸 Determine the appropriate common contractual tools used to transfer risk, and associate the appropriate amount of return for any product or service within construction projects.
- 🗸 Utilize Business Cases and Balanced Scorecards as methods of the procurement selection process to optimize the outcomes for the desired procurement strategy.
- 🗸 Develop practical guidelines regarding procurement methods and maintenance.
- 🗸 Create effective, succinct, and meaningful Procurement Analysis and Maintenance Reports for clients.
