EXOS 4578 - Health and Safety Committees

Course Description

Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) Committees are mandated in many jurisdictions and are considered an essential element of any health and safety management system. This seminar will examine when and why a joint committee should be established, how these committees should be structured and the various tools available to develop short and long term action plans aligned with the operational environment of any organization. The seminar will also explore various methods to assess the effectiveness of jOHS Committees and communicate continuous improvement strategies.

Aimed at entry-level and practicing health and safety coordinators, professionals, officers, technicians, supervisors, trainers, management, and administrators.

Fully online self-paced asynchronous course, accessible through eClass, the University of Alberta’s eLearning management tool. This online, self-paced course is to be completed within the start and end dates specified. Each module of this course builds on the previous ones. To make sure each student understands the concepts before moving on, content of more advanced modules will be only be released for access after the previous module assignment has been completed by the student and graded by the instructor. In other words: Module 2 content will only be released when the Module 1 assignment has been submitted and graded, Module 3 will be released after the completion of Module 2, and so on. Graded on a pass or fail basis: a passing grade of 70% or higher is required to receive Completed Requirements (CR) on your transcript.
