EXRI 4678 - Colour Theory and Application
Course Description
Explore the complexities of colour and gain an understanding of its function, subjectivity, and application. Learn basic light and colour theories, colour harmony schemes, colour mixing with acrylics, development and application of a colour plan, implications of colour for the selection of residential interior materials, psychological properties of colour; historical colour periods; and colour forecasting/trends.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Summarise the relationship between light and colour
- Explain the vocabulary of colour and apply it in assignments, class discussions and activities
- Describe various colour systems
- Apply the concepts related to colour contrasts
- Recognize, develop, and present successful colour harmonies
- Think critically with respect to colour selection and application
- Recognize that colour is an element of design and recognize it within the principles of design
- Describe the psychology and culture of colour
- Become receptive to cultural implications of colour
- ‘See’ colour from a historical perspective
