EXFRM 2715 - Neurological Rehabilitation for Health Professionals
Course Description
This course provides the latest best practices and clinical guidelines for the rehabilitation management of neurological conditions, including Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, stroke, brain injury, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease. Learners will better understand these conditions and learn to develop evidence-based rehabilitation treatment plans.
Who Should Take This Course?
This course is designed for Physical therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physicians, Nurses, Kinesiologists, Recreational Therapists, and other health professionals.
Learning Objectives
By the end the course, students will be able to:
- 🗸 Understand the role of movement system diagnoses and descriptors for movement and balance diagnoses in neurological rehabilitation.
- 🗸 Describe common medical and pharmacological management of individuals with stroke, brain injury, dementia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and epilepsy.
- 🗸 Identify the role of health promotion in individuals with neurological impairment and provide recommendations for physical activity and sleep quality.
- 🗸 Develop an appropriate rehabilitation plan of care for common symptoms or impairments in neurological conditions, including gait deficits, balance deficits, upper extremity impairment, vertigo, fatigue, mood disorder, pain, dysphagia, etc.
- 🗸 Become familiar with common and emerging technologies used in neurological rehabilitation, including electrical stimulation, orthoses, virtual reality, and robotic-assisted therapy.
