EXFRM 2729 - Mentoring Students in Clinical Education
Course Description
This course is intended to prepare and support new and experienced clinical educators as they facilitate the growth of rehabilitation students during clinical/fieldwork practicums. Clinical Educators will develop skills to provide experiential learning for students to apply their knowledge, skills and values to develop practice competencies, professionalism and workplace readiness.
This online course includes 4 self-paced, asynchronous learning modules with short knowledge-check quizzes and some case studies for the application of concepts learned. Also included is an overview of each of the three FRM professional programs (Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech Language Pathology).

This course is designed for new and experienced clinical educators who facilitate the growth of rehabilitation students during clinical/fieldwork practicums.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

- 🗸 Gain an increased understanding of the factors that contribute to high-quality clinical/fieldwork placements.
- 🗸 Understand the roles and responsibilities of the professional program, the clinical educator and the student during the experiential learning experience.
- 🗸 Gain an increased understanding of the Adult Learning Theory.
- 🗸 Consider the needs and contributions of diverse learners and how to integrate anti-oppressive practices into experiential learning experiences.
- 🗸 Consider how to reinforce professionalism and clinical reasoning during experiential learning experiences.
