Course Description

Designed for teachers, this course will provide you with general principles that have immediate application in the classroom and/or studio. You will be equipped with: how to implement a language learning model to teach music, how to construct lesson plans using small achievable steps, how to help students become independent learners in order to reach their own goals, and how to nurture a supportive learning environment.

You will leave this course with practical tools and renewed confidence to elevate your teaching and make a lasting impact on your students’ learning journey!

Who Should Take This Course?

This course is designed for music teachers (classroom K-12, private studio, ensemble directors, community programs) and adult music students.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • 🗸 Implement a language learning model to teach music through listening, imitation, communication and improvisation.
  • 🗸 Construct lesson plans using small, achievable steps, individualized for the student or group that is being taught.
  • 🗸 Help students become independent learners in order to reach their own goals by helping them recognize their own achievements.
  • 🗸 Nurture a supportive learning environment by celebrating achievement without competition and supporting learner advancement at their own pace.

Notes
  • 🗸The course is directed at people who have basic competency with a musical instrument. There will not be any performance activity in class; however, participants may want to use an instrument of their choice to test out theories and principles under discussion.
  • 🗸A digital badge will be issued upon completion of the course. After the grade is posted, learners will receive an email from MyCreds with instructions for accessing their badge.
