EXPH 2570 - Patient Care Skills 2

In this course, learners will further refine skills within the pharmacists' scope of practice for patient care. The course focuses on the patient care process (ability to conduct a patient assessment, develop a pharmacotherapy plan, and implement monitoring and follow-up), interprofessional communication, documentation, patient education, and pharmacy compensation models.

The course is designed for:

• 🗸Exclusive use by learners enrolled in the full Diploma in Canadian Pharmacy Practice (DCPP) program.
• 🗸Internationally educated pharmacy graduates (IEPGs) who have completed course prerequisites and are planning to become a clinical pharmacist in Alberta or elsewhere in Canada.
• 🗸Pharmacists who have completed the prerequisites and are keen to enhance and apply pharmacy operational and patient care skills in scenarios realistic to Canadian practice.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

• 🗸 Apply pharmacist scope of practice, legal, and ethical frameworks to care for patients with minor ailments or common chronic conditions.
• 🗸 Apply the patient care process, from assessment to care planning, monitoring, and follow-up.
• 🗸 Use knowledge, experience, and best available evidence to optimize pharmacy care.
• 🗸 Apply pharmaceutical calculations to meet patients' medication-related needs.
• 🗸 Concisely document plans and activities.
• 🗸 Engage patients and caregivers through education and shared decision-making.
• 🗸 Communicate clearly, without jargon, with patients and health professionals.
